glad you are with us tonight.
02/20/05 21:04:41 Tonie: Tony, what was your
first encounter with the Moody Blues?
02/20/05 21:04:45 pbaub: tony, i will kick
it off, your studio on your web site you show, you told me is where you recorded
the blue jays, any stories you want to share about that time?
02/20/05 21:04:48
tonyclarke: So am I - I feel I am amongst a friend or two
02/20/05 21:04:50 Anne: Thank you for
taking the time to join us at such a late hour
02/20/05 21:05:58 gail: what have you been
doing lately?
02/20/05 21:06:06 pbaub: you are tony, your
among many friends
02/20/05 21:06:11
tonyclarke: I built that studio whilst the Moodies were on tour, not
physically you understand! The layout, design, equipment, etc.
02/20/05 21:06:30 pbaub: what manner
of equipment? was it 16 track??
02/20/05 21:06:32 alwaysmoody: What is the
addy for Tony's' website?
02/20/05 21:06:57 pbaub: i will post his
link on moody blues and friends later
02/20/05 21:07:06 gail: thanks pbaub
02/20/05 21:07:09 alwaysmoody: thanks
02/20/05 21:07:30 MoodyVal: Tony, thank you
so much for all your work on the Moodies' albums and Bluejays, Songwriter &
Natural Avenue!
02/20/05 21:07:32 James_Dean: It is a great
website! though the forums section does look somewhat familiar...
02/20/05 21:07:55 alwaysmoody: I'd love to
hear about the Blue Jays recording sessions. Any favorite stories?
02/20/05 21:08:04 Anne: Tony, do you miss
the old days?
02/20/05 21:08:14 gail: are the moodys
planning a new album? and will you be involved?
02/20/05 21:08:26 Hal: hi all
02/20/05 21:08:58 James_Dean: Good question
gail. ;)
02/20/05 21:09:14 cobhamgeniuses: tony, can
you give us a time in the studio when anything that could possibly go wrong
actually did?
02/20/05 21:09:39 gail: thanks
02/20/05 21:10:29
tonyclarke: I look back on "the old days" with great nostalgia
- I think some of the warmth of those days shows up very well in the photographs
on the site - we were doing toccc
02/20/05 21:11:01 MoodyVal: Those are
great photos!!!!
02/20/05 21:11:18 pbaub: toccc is my
favorite album, it means a lot to me on a personal level
02/20/05 21:11:24 Anne: The photos are
great. I really enjoyed looking at them.
02/20/05 21:11:27 Laddie: When you are in
New York I will buy you a pint
02/20/05 21:11:28 gail: Is there a way to
make this a voice chat??
02/20/05 21:11:37 James_Dean: Tony, can you
describe your first meeting with Mike and the Moodies?
02/20/05 21:11:48 pbaub: yes, gail, yell
very loudly
02/20/05 21:11:51
tonyclarke: I will hold you to that Laddie!
02/20/05 21:11:59 Hal: lol, bob
02/20/05 21:12:07 gail: lol
02/20/05 21:12:44 Anne: I don't have the
capability to make this a voice chat.
02/20/05 21:12:54 pbaub: alright you guys,
stop bouncing, your going to scare tony
02/20/05 21:13:00
tonyclarke: The first proper meeting was at the house in Esher in Surrey.
We sat and talked all night. Mike showed me his 4-track teac tape machine. We
recorded the Dawn Chorus and played it back to the birds half an hour later
02/20/05 21:13:00 gail: OK, just
wondered.
02/20/05 21:13:21 James_Dean: That's good
Anne because I just burped.
02/20/05 21:13:26 pbaub: i used to have a 4
track teac
02/20/05 21:13:30 moodyluvah: lucky birds!
02/20/05 21:13:33 RR: How did the birds like
it?? LOL
02/20/05 21:13:36 Anne: And the birds must
have been impressed if you stayed with them for so many years
02/20/05 21:13:52 slowflight: Teac?
02/20/05 21:14:02 pbaub: teac is a brand
02/20/05 21:14:11 slowflight: Thanks
02/20/05 21:14:55 cobhamgeniuses: tony,
would you please describe working with derek, dave and the other engineers on
the sessions?
02/20/05 21:15:03 pbaub: did Justin sing
dawn right away? or did mike sing it first?
02/20/05 21:15:17 gail: I missed if you
answered but are you doing anything with the Moodys now?
02/20/05 21:15:58
tonyclarke: Working with Derek, Dave etc - tremendous, professional,
patient and extremely hilarious
02/20/05 21:16:08 James_Dean: Cool, I
had a Teac cassette but a Sony reel to reel.
02/20/05 21:16:30 cobhamgeniuses:
great...thanks for that, tc
02/20/05 21:16:33 gail: I hope we aren't
bombarding you too badly...but there so many things we want to know about you
and the work you've done.
02/20/05 21:16:39 stellamaris: it looks as
if this is moving at a reasonable enough pace for me to say hi and love n
{{{hugs}} to all
02/20/05 21:16:51 MasNem: Hi Tony and all!
02/20/05 21:17:07 pbaub: hello. masako
02/20/05 21:17:16 RR: Hi Stella
02/20/05 21:17:21 pbaub: tony, masnem (
masako ) is in Japan
02/20/05 21:17:28 goddess: Hi Mas! Hi

02/20/05 21:17:37 stellamaris: RR18? lol
02/20/05 21:17:44 gail: sweet and serious is

02/20/05 21:17:46 RR: LOL
02/20/05 21:18:04 redtulip: Hi Tony, very
interesting website & nice photos too
02/20/05 21:18:05 goddess: Oh,
yeah.........Hi Tony and thank you for your time!
02/20/05 21:18:10 Anne: Hi Karen
02/20/05 21:18:16 pat: Have you played any
musical instruments on albums?
02/20/05 21:18:30 RR: Yes, Tony, very
gracious to offer your time
02/20/05 21:18:31
tonyclarke: Glad you like the site - it is not quite there yet
02/20/05 21:18:53 pbaub: do you guys
realize it is 2 in the morning in england where tony is??? he is awesome to stay
up for us
02/20/05 21:19:16
tonyclarke: I once played at few bass notes on Elvis Presley's Wild in
the County to repair it
02/20/05 21:19:19 Hal: well. i'm a
night owl when i can be....
02/20/05 21:19:42 gail: Hope your a night
owl
02/20/05 21:19:46 cobhamgeniuses: yes.....i
figured he was coming live from across the pond!
02/20/05 21:20:00 stellamaris: someone a bit
ago asked about special memories of the Blue Jays sessions, good question, do
you have any to share? and yes thanks for doing this, Tony
02/20/05 21:20:06 James_Dean: Did you meet
him? (Elvis)
02/20/05 21:20:46 MoodyVal: We're very happy
& grateful to Tony for doing this!
02/20/05 21:21:33 slowflight: Tony, do you
have a favorite Moodies' album?
02/20/05 21:21:44 alwaysmoody: How long did
it take to record Blue Jays?
02/20/05 21:21:49 gail: Sweet I was just
talking about that earlier today on higher and higher board.
02/20/05 21:21:53
tonyclarke: No, wish I had, but I did meet Ronnie Tutt and some of the
band when they played for Neil Diamond
02/20/05 21:22:13 pbaub: now that is
cool!!!!!!!!!
02/20/05 21:22:34 gail: Yeah that is cool I
love Neil also.
02/20/05 21:22:42 pbaub: me too, gail
02/20/05 21:23:04
tonyclarke: Blue Guitar was fun to do "Blue Guitar I really wanted
Red but I got Blue instead" - we used the Halle Orchestra up in Manchester.
It was great to do
02/20/05 21:23:13 pbaub: so tell us
all about the blue jay sessions tony !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
02/20/05 21:23:21 pbaub: oops. out of synch
here
02/20/05 21:23:32
tonyclarke: Like children you love them all
02/20/05 21:23:41 stellamaris: LOL at
the answer! and one of my favorite songs, too
02/20/05 21:23:52 slowflight: Cool
02/20/05 21:24:00 pbaub: justin does a
pretty nice solo on blue guitar
02/20/05 21:24:09 gail: pbaub have you heard
is Mike is popping in?
02/20/05 21:24:23 pbaub: how did you mike
his guitar, tony? did he patch right into your board or did you mike his amp?
02/20/05 21:24:24
tonyclarke: Indeed he does - he does nice guitar solos on most things, it
is a habit
02/20/05 21:24:51 slowflight: Neat,
precise, and just what the song needs
02/20/05 21:24:59 redtulip: Tony, have you
ever jammed (on guitars) w/Justin?
02/20/05 21:25:13 pbaub: yes, just is not
the fastest player, but he has impeccable taste
02/20/05 21:25:18
tonyclarke: Both - depended on the track. Very often we had the amp up so
loud in the studio, we would retreat to the control room
02/20/05 21:25:34 pbaub: was he using
marshalls or hiwatts?
02/20/05 21:25:50 James_Dean: For some
reason, Blue does seem more appropriate... :)
02/20/05 21:26:28 stellamaris: fits the
"mood" of the song LOL
02/20/05 21:26:29
tonyclarke: No I haven't but I sang a bit on Songwriter. We would put the
tape machine into record and run downstairs, with enough leader tape we would
get there on time
02/20/05 21:26:34 alwaysmoody: At the
time, did Justin and John think they would continue recording as the Blue Jays,
or did they think it was a one time thing? What did you think?
02/20/05 21:26:35 pat: Was there ever any
song done in just one take?
02/20/05 21:27:12
tonyclarke: Vox ac30 then Marshall
02/20/05 21:27:24 pbaub: vox!!
interesting
02/20/05 21:27:49 pbaub: i have had
marshalls but i still prefer fender the best
02/20/05 21:28:13 slowflight: Which song(s)
on Songwriter?
02/20/05 21:28:30
tonyclarke: When I look back I think we were killing time between Albums
02/20/05 21:28:54 pbaub: you mean
blue jays was killing time... and many of us just love it
02/20/05 21:29:11 slowflight: yes!
02/20/05 21:29:11 stellamaris: but it came
out so wonderful :) gmta pbaub
02/20/05 21:29:16 James_Dean: yup
02/20/05 21:29:19 redtulip: breathtaking
album
02/20/05 21:29:24 cobhamgeniuses: a
masterpiece
02/20/05 21:29:32
tonyclarke: No - it doesn't work that way, you don't set out to record
five instruments and be done with it otherwise you would be recording a
rehearsal!
02/20/05 21:29:40 alwaysmoody: It's
probably one of my all time favorite albums.
02/20/05 21:29:57
tonyclarke: Yes it did didn't it!
02/20/05 21:30:00 latentimage: one of
my favorites also
02/20/05 21:30:04 stellamaris: one of mine,
certainly
02/20/05 21:30:05 gail: Hard to believe that
something that great could be considered kill time
02/20/05 21:30:10
tonyclarke: And in a brand new studio at that
02/20/05 21:30:35 guest: where can
project arc be heard?
02/20/05 21:30:41 redtulip: congrats on all
the wonderful work you did with/for the Moodies
02/20/05 21:30:43 RR: nice way to break it
in!!
02/20/05 21:31:22 pbaub: tony, i understand
that justin and mike were supposed to record a du album first , but it didn't
work out so then john and justin recorded blue jays
02/20/05 21:31:50 Laddie: Do you think you
will ever write and record an album of your own tunes?
02/20/05 21:32:42
tonyclarke: Not to my knowledge, Mike was getting settled in America,
visa, family etc and we were in England
02/20/05 21:32:58 pbaub: okay,,, so
it was just a rumor then
02/20/05 21:33:07
tonyclarke: arc is coming soon and hear it you most certainly will
02/20/05 21:33:25 tonyclarke: I am told it
is the most powerful thing I have ever done
02/20/05 21:33:25 gail: great
02/20/05 21:33:29 guest: thank you
02/20/05 21:33:33 pbaub: will you have
samples of it on your web site?
02/20/05 21:33:42 cobhamgeniuses: tony, was
the threshold studio over at broadhurst gardens in west hampstead?
02/20/05 21:33:50 pbaub: and will you have
it for sell there
02/20/05 21:33:57
tonyclarke: possibly but I have to think about copyright
02/20/05 21:33:58 James_Dean: The
intro sounds great!
02/20/05 21:34:00 redtulip: looking forward
02/20/05 21:34:16 Laddie: OK That is 2 pints
02/20/05 21:34:19 ptycake: Can't wait to
hear something from you Tony as there isn't anything around good as you..
02/20/05 21:34:21
tonyclarke: Yes it was - in those days it was British West Hampstead
02/20/05 21:34:29 guest: are you
going to make it to the next shuttle launch?
02/20/05 21:34:39 cobhamgeniuses: i thought
it was---that's where the english national opera is now
02/20/05 21:35:07 Fanatic1963: Tony-Welcome
and thanks so much for chatting with us! Which Moodies album of those you worked
on is your favorite?
02/20/05 21:35:17
tonyclarke: By the way Arc is all my songs and is a concept album
02/20/05 21:35:28 pbaub: i cant wait
to hear it
02/20/05 21:35:37 moodyballetdancer:
terrific...looking forward to it
02/20/05 21:35:40 gail: i 2nd that
02/20/05 21:35:43 ptycake: Ditto ditto
02/20/05 21:35:53 pbaub: i 3rd 4th and 5th
it!
02/20/05 21:35:55 latentimage: can only
imagine how good it will be
02/20/05 21:36:09
tonyclarke: Next Shuttle - wouldn't that be nice - to quote Brian
(Wilson)
02/20/05 21:36:12 cobhamgeniuses: got
to go......thanks again bob and anne and a big kudos to you TC for doing this
chat for us
02/20/05 21:36:22 pat: Do you prefer the old
fashioned way of recording in the studio live or the way they do it now, sort of
mailing it in? The core 7 really are the best in my opinion.
02/20/05 21:36:22 stellamaris: can we hear a
little about what the concept is? or do we need to figure it out ourselves when
we hear it?
02/20/05 21:36:37 Anne: You're welcome
cobhamgenius. I should have a transcript up tomorrow \
02/20/05 21:36:37 gail: When you say
concept..is it rock and roll? or???????
02/20/05 21:37:04 alwaysmoody: Will it be
released in the US or will it be available as an import?
02/20/05 21:37:22
tonyclarke: Gail - absolutely, yes it is but it does have an orchestra
02/20/05 21:37:25 pbaub: cob is in
france, he lives in nice i believe
02/20/05 21:37:57 gail: That's cool we all
know only the best bands can place with an orchestra
02/20/05 21:38:04 latentimage: i can't wait
to hear something off this.......
02/20/05 21:38:10 guest: does it contain
graceful power?
02/20/05 21:38:17 pbaub: Tony, the orchestra
adds a lot of power to a song, have you heard metallica's c.d. with the san
francisco symphony?
02/20/05 21:38:27
tonyclarke: I really do prefer the "old-fashioned" or some
might say the proper way to record. I don't like recording with Mice!!
02/20/05 21:38:34 latentimage:
something to really look forward to
02/20/05 21:38:40 gail: How soon can we
expect ARC
02/20/05 21:38:44 moodyballetdancer: can you
give us a few song titles?
02/20/05 21:38:47 ptycake: TC..do you miss
the early days of recording? Do you prefer the early days and how it was or now?
02/20/05 21:39:07
tonyclarke: Metallica - no but I think I am going to!
02/20/05 21:39:27 slowflight: So, how
do you record? The old-fashioned way or with computer?
02/20/05 21:39:35 pbaub: it is really
interesting... i am not a huge metallica fan, but this c.d. really has merit
02/20/05 21:40:40 RR: If "Days"
had failed, would you and the band have stayed the course or tried something
new? Of course, we are so glad things have gone the way they did.
02/20/05 21:41:07 stellamaris: guest ;)
02/20/05 21:42:12 gail: Tony what do you do
for fun?
02/20/05 21:42:16 guest: and a telescope
with a watchful eye on the studio floor for mice
02/20/05 21:43:08
tonyclarke: ARC - it depends on the record deal. ARC is quite possibly a
stage show which does complicate things. Re Titles - Lift Off / New Star / Speed
of Light / Out Here/Fifty Below / The Black Hole .... do you get the picture?
02/20/05 21:43:11 alwaysmoody: Tony,
did you have anything to do with the Moody Blues reuniting after their 'break'?
02/20/05 21:43:38
tonyclarke: Well I produced Octave
02/20/05 21:43:41 moodyballetdancer:
oh, yes....the picture is there! Thank you...
02/20/05 21:43:42 pbaub: it sounds awesome!!
very cerebral, but i am sure your going to do it with a light show????
02/20/05 21:43:45 latentimage: cool Tony
02/20/05 21:44:00 alwaysmoody: Wow! That
sounds great! (Arc titles) Certainly does build interest!
02/20/05 21:44:17 stellamaris: oh, yeah,
thanks for the titles I'm getting a picture, too
02/20/05 21:44:34 ptycake: can't wait!!
02/20/05 21:44:40 James_Dean: If it is show,
will it take to the road?
02/20/05 21:44:55 pbaub: i was just going to
ask that, james
02/20/05 21:45:00 gail: me too
02/20/05 21:45:10
tonyclarke: We have fun most of the time. We live at Brighton Marina
aboard the Tao Princess, by the sea with a lovely village atmosphere and some
great restaurants
02/20/05 21:45:21 James_Dean: Sorry p
02/20/05 21:45:36
tonyclarke: That would be great ... if you get it right you cant take it
anywhere
02/20/05 21:45:38 gail: sounds lovely
02/20/05 21:45:44 pbaub: i have been to
brighton, lovely town
02/20/05 21:45:51 stellamaris: great name
for the boat
02/20/05 21:46:24 Me: tony how did you and
pbaub meet each other?
02/20/05 21:46:28 stellamaris: sail or
powered?
02/20/05 21:46:33 Me: or pbaub........lol
02/20/05 21:46:34
tonyclarke: Re: ARC - the audio clip on the website, if you crank it up
through your hi fi, you will get a glimpse
02/20/05 21:46:35 pbaub: there is a
great indian restaurant, right on the square, i forget the name of it,,, right
behind the thistle hotel
02/20/05 21:46:45
tonyclarke: Powered, of course
02/20/05 21:47:07 pbaub: we have just
met in email through mike pinder
02/20/05 21:47:13 gail: Does ARC stand for
something?
02/20/05 21:47:14 Me: thank you
02/20/05 21:47:45 Me: this is moving very
slowly for me!

moving slowly
02/20/05 21:48:06 treesjus: Hi Tony ! Did
you contribute to any of the LP cover art ?
02/20/05 21:48:23 stellamaris: possibly

tonyclarke: No, I have not had the pleasure
02/20/05 21:50:33 stellamaris: but of

again
02/20/05 21:50:40 pbaub: he is a delightful
man, and of course a contemporary of yours.
02/20/05 21:50:50 pbaub: i would love to see
the two of you work together
02/20/05 21:51:00 Anne: Have you done any
work with any of the Beatles?
02/20/05 21:51:17
tonyclarke: Producers don't mix very well at all - like oil and water
02/20/05 21:51:29 pbaub: i had no

02/20/05 21:52:13 moodyballetdancer: a
matter of too many cooks spoiling the broth
02/20/05 21:52:16
tonyclarke: Only in my dreams - however I met John Lennon a long time ago
just before their first record release. We were sitting at a red formica table,
he pinned with his gaze and said "We've opened the doors, now get in
there"
02/20/05 21:52:29 ptycake: ;)
02/20/05 21:52:42 stellamaris: wow, great
encounter and yall did just that
02/20/05 21:52:55 gail: sounds like
something he'd say
02/20/05 21:53:03 Anne: That's so cool,
Tony. John Lennon is an idol of mine
02/20/05 21:53:07 ptycake: Absolutely adored
John Lennon
02/20/05 21:53:23 gail: Will you name some
others you've worked with?
02/20/05 21:53:41 isobel_pulaski: Too bad
he's gone. He was a creative genius. The world lost one of the best.
02/20/05 21:53:44 pbaub: we all did, i
believe. that period was truly magical for music, and we are sitting here
talking with one of the men responsible for it
02/20/05 21:53:57
tonyclarke: Here's a set question for you guys - what is the first sound
you hear of the Beatles?
02/20/05 21:54:10 pbaub: tony, you
knew clint passed away , don't you?
02/20/05 21:54:11 stellamaris: I know, pbaub

02/20/05 21:54:40 pat: The '60's was the
renaissance of the 20th Century. Thanks Tony for your contributions. :)

02/20/05 21:55:30 stellamaris: the internet,

going to say leader tape... ;)
02/20/05 21:57:16 Anne: I knew it Pbaub but

Sound..Tony, what inspired you, in the creation of "that sound", that
all Moodies' fans love.
02/20/05 21:57:48
tonyclarke: My wife, Helen, who is doing all the typing used to sneak in
to John Lennon's garden to watch them rehearse - she watched them rehearsing

02/20/05 21:58:14 Anne: And welcome to you,
Helen.
02/20/05 21:58:14
tonyclarke: James Dean - excellent answer
02/20/05 21:58:19 pbaub: we all know
the producer is often very responsible for the sound of a group, how much
influence did you have on them?
02/20/05 21:58:20 brightbel: oh wow
02/20/05 21:58:24 isobel_pulaski: Cool.
Helen, lucky duck.

i hope we are not working you to death!!!
02/20/05 21:59:05
tonyclarke: It was 50-50. They influenced me and I influenced them. It
was a mutual turn on
02/20/05 21:59:28 pbaub:
great,,,,,was mike the primary motivating force?
02/20/05 21:59:42 brightbel: very cool
02/20/05 21:59:47 isobel_pulaski: Tony, how
did you first meet the Moody Blues? And whose idea was it to work together?
02/20/05 21:59:50 gail: How many years did
you work with the Moodys?
02/20/05 22:00:05
tonyclarke: I did get caught by Cynthia Lennon who did a deal with us -
(my best friend and I) she would get us their autographs in exchange for our
staying away .......... we reneged on the deal!
02/20/05 22:00:24 Anne: Now that's

02/20/05 22:00:31 slowflight: LOL who

02/20/05 22:00:35 stellamaris: LOL
02/20/05 22:00:35 isobel_pulaski: LOL
02/20/05 22:00:55 James_Dean: I would have
too! :)
02/20/05 22:01:12
tonyclarke: Mike was one of five primary motivating forces!
02/20/05 22:01:26 Anne: Excellent
answer
02/20/05 22:01:31 gail: I've heard she
didn't
02/20/05 22:01:31 slowflight: Like that
answer
02/20/05 22:01:36 pbaub: so there was no
real "leader" in the group
02/20/05 22:01:44 brightbel: like elements
02/20/05 22:01:44 moodyballetdancer: I would
think Justin would have a large say....
02/20/05 22:01:45 pat: :) :) :) :) :)
02/20/05 22:01:56 gail: try again! I heard
Cynthia didn't like girls hanging around
02/20/05 22:02:08 guest: tony, looking
forward to your project and let us all know when it lifts off - much (all things
good ) to you and all those around you-iwaenakonu
02/20/05 22:02:22 pbaub: they all worked
together to form the sound, it was truly a group then
02/20/05 22:02:48 Anne: Ahhh guest, I was
wondering who you were.
02/20/05 22:02:59 moodyballetdancer: thank
God for that, P
02/20/05 22:03:14 James_Dean: iwaenakonu :)
:)
02/20/05 22:03:28 brightbel: :?
02/20/05 22:03:55 gail: was
"guest" Mike Pinder?
02/20/05 22:04:00 pbaub: i have loved them
all equally
02/20/05 22:04:20 Anne: No, Gail, he's a
member of Mike's message board
02/20/05 22:04:21 pbaub: no, mike would come
in under his own name... he said he would come by if he could
02/20/05 22:04:25 Laddie: Clanaad must have
been an experience. They have that "mood"
02/20/05 22:04:47 gail: Ok sorry...
02/20/05 22:04:54 pbaub: tony, do you ever
see any of the guys when they are in england? or visit john in cobham?
02/20/05 22:04:56 Anne: Oh, no need to be
02/20/05 22:05:13 Anne: Have you attended
any of their shows in recent years?
02/20/05 22:05:15
tonyclarke: pbaub we have sent a answer twice and that please rephrase
message has come up, do we have a problem
02/20/05 22:05:24 pbaub: john has
told me he has jam sessions at his house there,,, jeff beck comes over to play
02/20/05 22:05:45 pbaub: hhmmm should not
be.....
02/20/05 22:05:56 pbaub: how did you send
it?
02/20/05 22:05:57 Anne: Tony, that's a new
one on me. I'll see if I can find out why you're getting that message.
02/20/05 22:06:06
tonyclarke: Yes, Mike in September and Justin in October
02/20/05 22:06:07 goddess: Does
Justin really have an 'evil twin' that he claims is responsible for some things
he does and says?? ;)
02/20/05 22:06:11 pbaub: your coming through
just fine otherwise
02/20/05 22:06:26 Anne: I don't have any
filters set up so I'm not sure why you're getting it
02/20/05 22:06:32 pbaub: have you net gordy
or paul ?
02/20/05 22:06:49 Fanatic1963: Tony--Can you
share some of your best funny stories of working with the Moodies?
02/20/05 22:07:34
tonyclarke: Try again - re starting work with the Moodies - I was asked
to listen to some demos on reel to reel
02/20/05 22:07:49 pbaub: this was
before you met them?
02/20/05 22:08:00 alwaysmoody: Who asked you
to listen to the demos?
02/20/05 22:08:11
tonyclarke: I took them home, listened and discovered an acoustic guitar
and vocal called Nights in White Satin - you can guess the rest
02/20/05 22:08:24 gail: lol
02/20/05 22:08:36 isobel_pulaski: How did
you meet the Moodies? And whose idea was it for you to work with them?
02/20/05 22:08:42 RR: What excitement that
must've been
02/20/05 22:08:43 gail: What a beautiful
memory for you
02/20/05 22:08:44 pbaub: wonderful story..
so you were set on fire with their music right away
02/20/05 22:08:45 moodyballetdancer: it must
have knocked you out, Tony....
02/20/05 22:08:47 latentimage: i would call
it fate
02/20/05 22:08:52 James_Dean: Yeah, I'm sure
some weird things must have happened in or out of the studio.
02/20/05 22:09:12 pbaub: yea, did you guys
smoke a lot of weed and drop acid ?
02/20/05 22:09:20 ptycake: Definitely fate
02/20/05 22:09:29
tonyclarke: No we did not
02/20/05 22:09:35 gail: I don't
believe you said that.....lol
02/20/05 22:09:36 pbaub: just teasing you
02/20/05 22:09:55 pbaub: well it was the
sixties!
02/20/05 22:09:58 gail: but is it true?
02/20/05 22:10:15 goddess: Pbaub, maybe he
doesn't remember!!! LOL
02/20/05 22:10:28
tonyclarke: Can you imagine, my first track with the Moodies was fly me
high and I knew I was on to something
02/20/05 22:10:28 pbaub: well, the
moodys have always impressed me as group that would not have done a lot of drugs
02/20/05 22:10:42 RR: Once the basic
"sound" was there, was it easy to keep the momentum going
02/20/05 22:10:45 pbaub: fly me high !!!!!
how ironic
02/20/05 22:11:05 James_Dean: Nope, it was
their fans.
02/20/05 22:11:08 isobel_pulaski: Wow.
That's a great song to start with.
02/20/05 22:11:18 gail: they've had us
flying high for 30 plus years
02/20/05 22:11:23
tonyclarke: Not long after was Nights in White Satin which was recorded
in about four hours. When we started there were two or three people in the
Control Room, when we finished there were about 15 or 20
02/20/05 22:11:29 pbaub: they sure
have ,gail
02/20/05 22:11:35 redtulip: Weed or not, I
think the quality of the music was always paramount
02/20/05 22:12:01 pbaub: no, paramount is a
studio in California. threshold is in England
02/20/05 22:12:02 alwaysmoody: Who were all
those people?
02/20/05 22:12:03 moodyballetdancer:
Everyone stopped dead in their tracks and followed the sound, Tony
02/20/05 22:12:03 slowflight: Why so many?
Because it was that good?
02/20/05 22:12:08 isobel_pulaski: I agree
redtulip.
02/20/05 22:12:16
tonyclarke: The concentration was so much that I did not notice anything
but the track
02/20/05 22:12:25 Anne: Justin was
just a kid at that time, did you know right away when you heard his voice that
he would have such an impact on music in general?
02/20/05 22:12:26 James_Dean: That's
obvious!
02/20/05 22:12:26 rainbow_glo: Fly Me High
was supposedly supposed to make back the £5000 that the Moodies owed Decca, is
that correct?
02/20/05 22:12:48 pbaub: i love a good grove
like that... when the music just envelopes your totality as a being
02/20/05 22:13:12 isobel_pulaski: I thought
the album was supposed to do that.
02/20/05 22:13:12
tonyclarke: Ah, you know that story about the 5 grand - yes my Decca boss
handed me the demos with that in mind
02/20/05 22:13:24 MoodyVal: How did
the early Moody albums get their titles -- some of them we know -- but how about
Days? Lost Chord? toccc? Who named them?
02/20/05 22:13:36 rainbow_glo: Thank
goodness it went beyond that :-)
02/20/05 22:13:43 pbaub: he wanted his money
back! so THAT was the motivating force in launching the moodys!
02/20/05 22:13:45
tonyclarke: All I knew was that it was a lovely voice that belonged
02/20/05 22:13:48 rainbow_glo: and
beyond too
02/20/05 22:13:54 James_Dean: What's money
when art is at stake?
02/20/05 22:14:07 pbaub: as clear channel
that
02/20/05 22:14:08 RR: Your boss must've had
total faith in you and them then!!
02/20/05 22:14:11 gail: yeah right
02/20/05 22:14:30 isobel_pulaski: I love
that voice! And the good looking man behind it.
02/20/05 22:14:42 rainbow_glo: Money is the
great inspirer and the devils tool all in one
02/20/05 22:14:55 isobel_pulaski: Agreed.
02/20/05 22:15:09
tonyclarke: I remember being at a meeting where they turned Jimi Hendrix
down - they didn't want a left handed guitar player who could play with his
teeth, not at 5 grand!
02/20/05 22:15:18 gail: Justin is
great...but I love a bass guitar...
02/20/05 22:15:21 slowflight: I'd say you
helped repay that amount,, with interest
02/20/05 22:15:29 Anne: That's amazing
02/20/05 22:15:37 pbaub: They turned Hendrix
down?!!! I am not believing this!!!
02/20/05 22:15:43 rainbow_glo: Yes they
preferred fingers at £1000 a pop :-)
02/20/05 22:15:46 latentimage: wow
02/20/05 22:15:57
tonyclarke: They had already turned The Beatles down!
02/20/05 22:16:03 ptycake: Whoa..
02/20/05 22:16:05 alwaysmoody: Turned down
Jimi Hendrix....now there's a decision I'll bet they regretted
02/20/05 22:16:06 pbaub: JESUS MURPHY
!!!!!!!!!!!
02/20/05 22:16:08 latentimage: oh jeez
02/20/05 22:16:16 isobel_pulaski: Hendrix
wasn't always a big name, Pbaub
02/20/05 22:16:16 alwaysmoody: Beatles too,
yikes!
02/20/05 22:16:18 gail: OH MY
GAWD!!!!!!!!!!!
02/20/05 22:16:19 Anne: Just unbelievable
02/20/05 22:16:24 pat: Boy they must still
be kicking themselves. They were on a roll!
02/20/05 22:16:26 slowflight: At least they
hung onto the Moodies
02/20/05 22:16:32
tonyclarke: Why stop with Jimi Hendrix - they were on a roll but they did
sign The Rolling Stones a couple of weeks later and of course the Moody Blues
02/20/05 22:16:36 rainbow_glo: Well
Decca made some good decisions, once you talked them into it
02/20/05 22:16:37 pbaub: hendrix is my
guitar hero,,,,i know his full story
02/20/05 22:16:41 alwaysmoody: Did you meet
James Taylor when he was over there trying to get started?
02/20/05 22:17:04 James_Dean: Good Q!
02/20/05 22:17:07 Laddie: It is snowing
02/20/05 22:17:30 latentimage: Laddie.you in
nyc?
02/20/05 22:17:37 moodyballetdancer: In re:
to a previous question....when can we expect to see arc? I don't believe it was
answered...
02/20/05 22:17:43 Laddie: Aye
02/20/05 22:17:44 rainbow_glo: Tony,may I
ask, who are your favorite musician(s) of all time, and now in today's music?
02/20/05 22:18:05 ptycake: Good Question
02/20/05 22:18:32 goddess: I have some
recordings of Jimi with John Lennon doing "Day Tripper," among others.
Fathom that!! :o
02/20/05 22:18:52 goddess: Absolutely

02/20/05 22:18:59
tonyclarke: I adore James Taylor. His career path is perfect enough as it

02/20/05 22:19:19 pbaub: interesting man,

02/20/05 22:19:37 gail: He's come a long way

02/20/05 22:19:42 isobel_pulaski: Amen to
that.
02/20/05 22:19:44 James_Dean: He is one of
my favs!
02/20/05 22:19:44 alwaysmoody: Thanks, Tony.
Just curious
02/20/05 22:20:21 pat: When did you become a
producer?
02/20/05 22:20:29 isobel_pulaski: Tony, who
inspired your choice of career?
02/20/05 22:20:37 alwaysmoody: Seeing his
son Ben, is just like seeing JT in the beginning
02/20/05 22:20:54 latentimage: how true
02/20/05 22:21:18
tonyclarke: James Taylor, Jaco Pastorius, Chet Atkins, Floyd Cramer,
Eddie Cochrane, Ray Charles, it goes on and on and on
02/20/05 22:21:20 goddess: He looks
AND sounds like his Dad...........
02/20/05 22:21:25 gail: Do you have any
children and if so are they in the music business?
02/20/05 22:21:37 redtulip: jt. has done a
nice duet w/Alison Krause How's the World Treating You (a chet atkins song, I
think)
02/20/05 22:21:52 rainbow_glo: I knew that
couldn't be a small list. :-) There's just so many great ones
02/20/05 22:22:41
tonyclarke: In 1966 I became a Producer. I was a session bass player and
I kept seeing the same producer, smart suit, expense account, briefcase and I
thought - this is for me
02/20/05 22:22:54 rainbow_glo: lol
02/20/05 22:22:59 pbaub: you have excellent
taste, chet atkins was my first guitar hero next to carlos montoya
02/20/05 22:23:16 moodyballetdancer: well,
it's a good thing for us you thought that way!
02/20/05 22:23:38 gail: yeah
02/20/05 22:23:52 James_Dean: You sure hit
your stride TC!
02/20/05 22:23:58 MoodyVal: Things happen

02/20/05 22:24:20 goddess: Ditto that!
02/20/05 22:24:25 stellamaris: yes indeed,
thank you
02/20/05 22:24:26
tonyclarke: I do, between us we have six children and four grandchildren
(a fifth is waiting in the wings). My son, Christopher works for De Wolfe Music,
probably the biggest sound library in the world.
02/20/05 22:24:57 gail: I'm sure your
proud of all of them
02/20/05 22:25:14 Laddie: Do you know ever
know Jim Cameron who was married to Grace Slick?
02/20/05 22:25:15 rainbow_glo: So Moody
Blues music sits about where within your tastes, Tony? Even enclose to the top,
or not what you listen to at home?
02/20/05 22:25:22
tonyclarke: My grandson, Max, played his first gig last night in front of
200 people. I saw the video, it was great. He was signing Brown Sugar and
playing lead guitar and the phrasing was great.
02/20/05 22:25:22 gail: congrat's on
the one on the way
02/20/05 22:25:48 redtulip: So you're
raising another generation or two of music lovers!
02/20/05 22:25:57 slowflight: And music
players!
02/20/05 22:26:06 pbaub: splendid!! will you
record him?
02/20/05 22:26:23 isobel_pulaski: Children

02/20/05 22:27:23 isobel_pulaski: LOL
02/20/05 22:27:32
tonyclarke: I must confess I didn't listen to the Moodies for a time, and
then rediscovered what we had done together. I am very proud of what we
achieved. Some of it borders on the miraculous
02/20/05 22:27:38 pbaub: children of
future passed
02/20/05 22:27:48 rainbow_glo: I agree ,well
said, Tony
02/20/05 22:27:50 ranger Disconnects
02/20/05 22:27:55 MoodyVal: Definitely!
02/20/05 22:27:58 moodyballetdancer: The
Core 7
02/20/05 22:28:04 slowflight: What ones do
you consider to be that, miraculous?
02/20/05 22:28:06 Anne: It really is
wonderful
02/20/05 22:28:14 pbaub: you can say that
again tony. some of the most wonderful music ever done,,, i rate it up there
iwth mozart..
02/20/05 22:28:15
tonyclarke: Don't get me wrong, I don't think we created miracles but it
was just amazing to pull it off
02/20/05 22:28:29 slowflight: Oh.
02/20/05 22:28:41 slowflight: For example?
02/20/05 22:28:41 moodyballetdancer: and we
appreciate all your efforts....sigh
02/20/05 22:28:41 James_Dean: TC, what did
you think of the early Moodies incarnation?
02/20/05 22:28:45 gail: lol
02/20/05 22:28:47 redtulip: Thank goodness
for it too!
02/20/05 22:29:00 isobel_pulaski: Why did
you stop listening for a time? Too painful? Or too busy?
02/20/05 22:29:03 alwaysmoody: I remember
reading about the Moodies learning to play new instruments for the recording
session
02/20/05 22:29:23
tonyclarke: A bit of both
02/20/05 22:29:39 pbaub: i can
understand the pain
02/20/05 22:30:08 isobel_pulaski: Yeah. But
the music is rather healing especially after a long day.
02/20/05 22:30:11 slowflight: would you work
with them again?
02/20/05 22:30:26 ptycake: Another good
question!
02/20/05 22:30:27 pbaub: i PRAY he works
with them again!!!!!!!!!!
02/20/05 22:30:33 isobel_pulaski: Have they
asked you to work with them again?
02/20/05 22:31:11 moodyballetdancer:
wouldn't that be wonderful
02/20/05 22:31:18
tonyclarke: I often do in my sleep! But the answer is yes of course I
would
02/20/05 22:31:25 isobel_pulaski: It
would definitely.
02/20/05 22:31:32 pbaub: that would be so
cool
02/20/05 22:31:38 ptycake: Can you imagine
what sound would come out now if TC were back with them?
02/20/05 22:31:44 slowflight: It would be
great
02/20/05 22:31:45 rainbow_glo: How
instrumental do you feel you were in the Moody's success? Most of us would say
you were integral to that, I think, but how did you see your role?
02/20/05 22:31:50 goddess: I don't
understand the 'pain' part............
02/20/05 22:31:52 isobel_pulaski:
Spectacular.
02/20/05 22:31:54 moodyballetdancer: the
best you could hear
02/20/05 22:32:18 gail: I would definitely

what Tony would say, though lol
02/20/05 22:33:00 moodyballetdancer: inside

02/20/05 22:33:01 isobel_pulaski: Then they
should get back together for something.
02/20/05 22:33:33 isobel_pulaski: Schedules
permitting, of course.
02/20/05 22:33:37
tonyclarke: I was piloting this wonderful ship that could go anywhere.
They were the most wonderful crew
02/20/05 22:33:53 slowflight: What a
cool metaphor
02/20/05 22:33:59 pbaub: they were boat
people?
02/20/05 22:34:06 rainbow_glo: How poetic,
and lovely

02/20/05 22:50:52
tonyclarke: I Don't give me that best of times worst of times routine -
it was extremely memorable. A wonderful ride - I do not remember a worst of
times until it was over
02/20/05 22:51:17 James_Dean: It's
not over yet.
02/20/05 22:51:19 rainbow_glo: Tony, do you
have any idea how close Mark I Moodies were to recording "I Really Haven't
Got The Time", since they had been using it in their stage show just before
Denny left?
02/20/05 22:51:23 rainbow_glo: And why was
the decision made to go ahead and do it with Mark II even though it was really
more like Mark I? Was it just because it was Mike's song and it hadn't been
recorded yet, and was ready?
02/20/05 22:51:29 moodyballetdancer:
<<smile>> great answer Tony
02/20/05 22:52:26 azblues: Was there
anything really funny that happened that you could share?
02/20/05 22:52:49
tonyclarke: Yes I heard "I really haven't got the time". I
remember Mike playing marraccas at a night club in London out in front of the
band and they exploded - never seen that in my life before!

02/20/05 22:54:01 stellamaris: rofl!
02/20/05 22:54:07 azblues: What did the rest
of the guys do?
02/20/05 22:54:08 pat: Did a cat really
knock over chimes and it was recorded?
02/20/05 22:54:22
tonyclarke: The band played on
02/20/05 22:54:25 gail: lmao
02/20/05 22:54:36 isobel_pulaski: And was
the cat punished for it?
02/20/05 22:54:39 gail: very professional
02/20/05 22:54:44 gail: lol
02/20/05 22:55:16 rainbow_glo: So he picked
up a tambourine and the rest was history....
02/20/05 22:55:23 Fanatic1963: Re "the
band played on"---That's always been their forte, right?
02/20/05 22:55:27 azblues: Can you tell me
exactly where the chime tree incident is in the recording? It all sounds good to
me!
02/20/05 22:55:57
tonyclarke: No a musician (he might have been a cool cat) the percussion
player managed to knock over the tree bell at the crescendo in the orchestral
section of Nights in White Satin
02/20/05 22:56:11 tonyclarke: I left it in -
it was great
02/20/05 22:56:24 rainbow_glo: happy
accidents do happen
02/20/05 22:57:09
tonyclarke: We had lots of those little happy accidents, I believe in
them and you can build on them
02/20/05 22:57:12 gail: I am going to
listen to it very carefully after this is over....I didn't know about this
incident
02/20/05 22:57:23 Laddie: What a wonderful
evening.
02/20/05 22:57:27 rainbow_glo: entropy built
the world....
02/20/05 22:57:58 brightbel: gotta have a
cat to blame for everything...
02/20/05 22:58:01 azblues: I just received a
45 of Justin and someone named Webb of a song called "The Unexpected
Song". Can you tell me how the decisions are made as to what to record or
not?
02/20/05 22:58:38 isobel_pulaski: Marti
Webb?
02/20/05 22:58:48 azblues: Yes, I think
that's her.
02/20/05 22:58:57 azblues: Really good song.
02/20/05 22:58:59
tonyclarke: Sometime back someone asked about other artists - imagine
having The Four Tops doing their routine in your study at home as you play them
a track
02/20/05 22:59:24 ptycake: Need to
go, but want to say 'thank you' TC for this Chat! Much appreciated!!
02/20/05 22:59:27 Laddie: Wasn't Harry Webb.
02/20/05 22:59:31 azblues: My imagination
isn't that good, I'm afraid!!!
02/20/05 22:59:53 slowflight: Wow
02/20/05 23:00:13 rainbow_glo: I guess I'd
be partly awe-struck and partly frustrated lol
02/20/05 23:00:19 MoodyVal: Tell us about
"You Stole My Love."
02/20/05 23:00:43 azblues: I'm still unable
to fathom how anyone can come up with the music.
02/20/05 23:01:12 pbaub: it really is a gift
to be able to conceptualize music like that
02/20/05 23:01:33
tonyclarke: Well imagine this then - Robert Fripp (King Crimson) plays a
devastating guitar solo and I say that was great come and have a listen to which
he says I am not coming in unless it is guitar-playing history so I said -
02/20/05 23:01:41 tonyclarke: You had better
stay there then!
02/20/05 23:01:55 Fanatic1963: I
agree, pbaub!
02/20/05 23:02:02 pbaub: mozart is the all
time master, he would write entire symphonies in his mind and they would be
perfect when he put them down on paper
02/20/05 23:02:23 brightbel: oops
02/20/05 23:02:29 azblues: I was watching
the DVD of Justin at Bennett studio playing acoustically. Is that how he takes a
song into the guys and then do they sit and figure out what they're going to
play?
02/20/05 23:02:44 isobel_pulaski: Sounds
like someone had an ego trip.
02/20/05 23:02:50 Fanatic1963: Tony, I think
you are SO lucky to have been able to work with so many talented people!
02/20/05 23:02:52 rainbow_glo: lol
02/20/05 23:02:56
tonyclarke: You Stole my Love was the b-side to Simple Game and I wrote
it!
02/20/05 23:03:09 azblues: And they
were lucky to have you!
02/20/05 23:03:11 pbaub: splendid! i did not
know that!!
02/20/05 23:03:17 slowflight: Neither did I
02/20/05 23:03:26
tonyclarke: So do I - isn't life strange????
02/20/05 23:03:30 isobel_pulaski:
Wow. Didn't know you were a songwriter, Tony. Cool.
02/20/05 23:03:41 azblues: No, It's Just a
Simple Game
02/20/05 23:03:49 pbaub: ask john
02/20/05 23:04:06
tonyclarke: Jack Jones, Hank Marvin, Leo Sayer are just a few people who
have recorded my songs
02/20/05 23:04:23 pbaub: which leo
sayer song or songs?
02/20/05 23:04:27 isobel_pulaski: Yeah John.
Writes ILS & every line is ILS
02/20/05 23:04:28 James_Dean: Robert Fripp
needed a singer like Greg Lake to make it whole.
02/20/05 23:04:30 Fanatic1963: Congrats!
02/20/05 23:04:36 gail: I loved leo
Sayer....which of his songs did you write?
02/20/05 23:04:37 isobel_pulaski: LOL
02/20/05 23:04:40 Laddie: Will you list the
songs on your website?
02/20/05 23:05:09 pbaub: yea, tony , you
need to list all that stuff on your site
02/20/05 23:05:13
tonyclarke: Leo Sayer did a song of mine called Aviation
02/20/05 23:05:37 pbaub: i will have
to seek it out
02/20/05 23:05:37 isobel_pulaski: Wow. What
year? What album?
02/20/05 23:05:57 gail: Yeah me too.
02/20/05 23:05:58 Fanatic1963: I'll have to
find "Aviation" and give it a listen!
02/20/05 23:06:04
tonyclarke: "I was working at the airline one day, and out on the
street the next, the Company always came first with me, and she came second
best"
02/20/05 23:06:44 tonyclarke: My studio
band, Pluto, are currently recording my songs
02/20/05 23:07:02 isobel_pulaski:
Wow. That's great.
02/20/05 23:07:15 pbaub: splendid...we will
certainley purchase it when your done
02/20/05 23:07:29 pbaub: will you have your
stuff available from your web site?
02/20/05 23:07:35 James_Dean: Rick Wakeman
is a great keyboard player, did you consider him too?
02/20/05 23:08:15 pbaub: pluto, ruler of
scorpio......a reason behind that or a connection with scorpio?
02/20/05 23:08:22
tonyclarke: I have done three projects with Rick and yes he really is a
great keyboard player and an amazing comic into the bargain
02/20/05 23:08:41 tonyclarke: Pluto -
eccentric
02/20/05 23:09:07 azblues: Are
musicians (including yourself) as wacky as they seem??
02/20/05 23:09:28
tonyclarke: But of course, it is their destiny
02/20/05 23:09:40 tonyclarke: They march to
a different drum
02/20/05 23:09:50 azblues: Have you
ever done anything other than music?
02/20/05 23:09:55 Fanatic1963: Wacky is
good, though--means one is creative!
02/20/05 23:09:55 isobel_pulaski: It's
called creativity.
02/20/05 23:09:57 gail: it's the rest of us
that's off beat
02/20/05 23:09:58 Laddie: 4 beers
02/20/05 23:10:01 pbaub: yes, you have to be
outside the envelope to be that creative
02/20/05 23:10:31 James_Dean: I'll up you
one Laddie! ;)
02/20/05 23:10:33 azblues: I played drums- I
was always off beat- that's why the operative word is past tense!!
02/20/05 23:10:44 gail: lol
02/20/05 23:11:42 rainbow_glo: Do you have a
release date yet for the Pluto recordings?
02/20/05 23:11:48 gail: are you coming to
the states anytime soon?
02/20/05 23:11:55 Fanatic1963: Don't we ALL
wish we could create some music that would touch people's hearts, as Tony and
the Moodies did?
02/20/05 23:12:06 gail: yeah
02/20/05 23:12:15 azblues: If I could have
any wish, that would be it.
02/20/05 23:12:21 James_Dean: uh huh
02/20/05 23:12:54 isobel_pulaski: I just
march to my own drummer and am content if even one person is touched.
02/20/05 23:12:56 stellamaris: there are
other ways to touch hearts, do what you can, where you are
02/20/05 23:13:10 stellamaris: you got it
isobel
02/20/05 23:13:14 James_Dean: true
02/20/05 23:13:15 isobel_pulaski: Amen
Stella
02/20/05 23:13:16 pbaub: well said. stella,
we all have gifts of love to give
02/20/05 23:13:16
tonyclarke: Clannad was an experience. Recorded in England and Ireland -
in Ireland it was Windmill Lane Studios. The music was exquisite, it was for
Robin of Sherwood, beautifully shot for the legendary hero
02/20/05 23:13:35 pbaub: i have
several clannad c.d.'s
02/20/05 23:13:38 Laddie: Ok let's have ye
pint and discuss it.
02/20/05 23:13:45
tonyclarke: Robin the Hooded Man - the shortest lyric I have every
recorded
02/20/05 23:13:49 stellamaris: i love
clannad
02/20/05 23:13:52 isobel_pulaski: I love
Clannad.
02/20/05 23:13:56 Fanatic1963: I think
creativity is a painful process, and give all of you who share your music with
us a big thank you.
02/20/05 23:14:05
tonyclarke: We won a Bafta for that
02/20/05 23:14:06 stellamaris: we did
it agian isobel LOL
02/20/05 23:14:10 azblues: I probably would
love clannad...what is it???
02/20/05 23:14:10 isobel_pulaski: But that's
one of their best.
02/20/05 23:14:23 isobel_pulaski: LOL
Stella. Yes, we did.
02/20/05 23:14:25 pbaub: clannad is a Celtic

02/20/05 23:14:45 isobel_pulaski:
Clanad means family, I believe.
02/20/05 23:14:52 isobel_pulaski: Enya is
their sister.
02/20/05 23:14:58 James_Dean: Cheers!
02/20/05 23:15:00 azblues: Serious?
02/20/05 23:15:01 pbaub: tony, speaking of

02/20/05 23:15:12 pbaub: right, enya is her

02/20/05 23:15:14 Jackieblue_: I do Pbaub!

02/20/05 23:15:36 gail: while you guys have
your pint...I thinks I'll have a nice glass of wine
02/20/05 23:15:49 slowflight: Tony, have you

02/20/05 23:16:04 azblues: Margarita
02/20/05 23:16:05
tonyclarke: I went to a wedding in Dublin whilst recording the album, the
cab driver said " you'll never leave alive"
02/20/05 23:16:06 Jackieblue_:

02/20/05 23:16:37 slowflight: lol, Tony.
02/20/05 23:16:40 azblues: Tucson-- I really
don't like Moody Bluegrass and I'm originally a Kentuckian
02/20/05 23:16:47 moodyballetdancer: Re:

02/20/05 23:17:18 Anne: Gail, I resemble
that remark
02/20/05 23:17:19 isobel_pulaski: So do I,
Pbaub. It was recorded in Nashville.
02/20/05 23:17:24 Anne: Night Pat!

tonyclarke: Paul Brady, a songwriter I adore, great musicians - got up on

tonyclarke: Moodybluegrass - sounds great
02/20/05 23:17:55 pbaub: tony, if you
don't have moody blue grass, i will hook you up tot he producer, randey falkner,
he is a friend of mine and i know he would be delighted to send you a copy
02/20/05 23:17:59 isobel_pulaski: LOL
02/20/05 23:18:01 azblues: I guess the
"Moody" sound is just ingrained in me.
02/20/05 23:18:12 gail: Trust me its not!!!
02/20/05 23:18:22 azblues: I read they're
making a bluegrass 2
02/20/05 23:18:27 James_Dean: I'd rather
listen to the originals, let them come up with their own.
02/20/05 23:18:29 gail: Sorry pbaub but on
this one we don't agree
02/20/05 23:18:34 Fanatic1963: pbaub--is

02/20/05 23:18:38 slowflight: Yes, and I'm

02/20/05 23:18:49 slowflight: Bated breath.
02/20/05 23:18:53 pbaub: i totally disagree
with you, but thats cool
02/20/05 23:18:56 isobel_pulaski: MBG is
bluegrass in its purest form, I believe.
02/20/05 23:19:10 pbaub: i do have a gift of
networking, it is true
02/20/05 23:19:21 stellamaris: i havent

tonyclarke: Amen to that pbaub
02/20/05 23:19:36 stellamaris: yes

02/20/05 23:19:36 isobel_pulaski: I want
that gift, Pbaub. I'm too shy.
02/20/05 23:19:40 slowflight: Moody
Bluegrass puts the music into another audience's preview, and very well.
02/20/05 23:19:54 Jackieblue_: I would like
to hear a Moody New Age "album"
02/20/05 23:20:08 stellamaris: isobel i was
shy when i was younger ask anybody if im shy now! LOL
02/20/05 23:20:11 slowflight: They helped
define New Age years before it existed!
02/20/05 23:20:19 Jackieblue_: I agree
02/20/05 23:20:22 azblues: Pass that gift
on, pbaub!! I was at the Temecula concert and saw you but didn't know if I
should introduce myself or not. I didn't want to intrude or be obnoxious.
02/20/05 23:20:24 pbaub: it is very well
done indeed, the artists that do it ( including allison krauss ) approach it
with a real love and reverence for the music. it is a world of love indeed
02/20/05 23:20:26 stellamaris: you can
develop your confidence
02/20/05 23:20:30 Hal: that album has been
recorded...well partly moody...it's called: the promise....
02/20/05 23:20:31 gail: My sister likes
bluegrass and enjoyed it...I just can't stand "twang"
02/20/05 23:20:36 isobel_pulaski: LOL
Stella. I think you're great.
02/20/05 23:20:54 stellamaris: well i used
to be shy
02/20/05 23:20:58 rainbow_glo: Tony do you
you have any release date in mind for your Pluto recordings?
02/20/05 23:21:00 stellamaris: so you can
overcome it
02/20/05 23:21:08 slowflight: GAil, there's
very little 'twang' on Moody Bluegrass
02/20/05 23:21:09 pbaub: i would have loved
to have met you,, i adore people, i truly do, my heart is what makes me so big,
it fills my body with room enough for everyone
02/20/05 23:21:22 stellamaris: you got that

02/20/05 23:21:38
tonyclarke: I need a US label/outlet, whatever
02/20/05 23:21:52 azblues: I'm the
woman to whom Justin gave his pick on Sat. night...I may never be the same. Next
time I'll say "hi" if you don't mind?
02/20/05 23:21:58 pbaub: you know, thats not
a bad idea, a new age moody album, ottmar leibert, kitaro, tangerine dream, the
folks at windham hill.. awesome idea
02/20/05 23:22:06 rainbow_glo: I see, do you
have an album title and all that yet?
02/20/05 23:22:19 moodyballetdancer:
......ARC's release date?
02/20/05 23:22:27 isobel_pulaski: I don't
have any confidence, Stella. I go all red when I meet people and get tongue
tied.
02/20/05 23:22:38 slowflight: AZblue, I
talked to you a little after that show, you were standing at the wall, do you
remember?
02/20/05 23:22:45 Jackieblue_: Wouldn't that
be awesome PB?
02/20/05 23:23:01 stellamaris: isobel, PM me
on the board and ill give you my email address we need to talk but not here,
okay?
02/20/05 23:23:01
tonyclarke: Hopefully late Spring but given the stage aspect not so easy
to define the date
02/20/05 23:23:02 pbaub: Tony, Randey
is connected with rounder records..... might be a good contact for you
02/20/05 23:23:07 azblues: I remember very
little after seeing a pink shirt and jeans walking toward me!!!
02/20/05 23:23:14 Jackieblue_: ...and Lorena
Mckinnet
02/20/05 23:23:26 isobel_pulaski: Ok. Thanks
Stella.
02/20/05 23:23:28 slowflight: lol, yes, it
was obvious you were in shock
02/20/05 23:23:28 James_Dean: I really like
the pictures of you and Mike on his website, bur who is that weird little stone
guy between you in the one TC?
02/20/05 23:23:34 moodyballetdancer: Please
keep us up to date on that, Tony.....
02/20/05 23:23:35 stellamaris: YW isobel

02/20/05 23:24:05 isobel_pulaski: Moody Jazz

02/20/05 23:24:28 Jackieblue_: or Moody
Blues Blues!
02/20/05 23:24:33 James_Dean: oh, he didn't
look like himself that day..
02/20/05 23:24:35 azblues: I would love to

02/20/05 23:24:53 pbaub: i met annie a
couple of years ago, she is a very nice lady
02/20/05 23:24:58 pbaub: i love her voice

02/20/05 23:25:21 azblues: I remember her
from "renaissance".
02/20/05 23:25:24 isobel_pulaski: Didn't she

02/20/05 23:25:30 Fanatic1963: Tony-Would

02/20/05 23:25:31 stellamaris: brb
02/20/05 23:25:39 azblues: The only one I

credit FOR thinking OF it!!
02/20/05 23:26:09 moodyballetdancer: Buddy
Holly tribute?
02/20/05 23:26:10 slowflight: Not just
Justin, though, I think John and Graeme would work well on that too!
02/20/05 23:26:11 pbaub: justin doing buddy
holly?
02/20/05 23:26:11 isobel_pulaski: Justin
singing Buddy Holly. That would be great.
02/20/05 23:26:23 redtulip: We would all
love it!
02/20/05 23:26:32 pbaub: i would add him
doing the everly brothers on the wings of a nightingale
02/20/05 23:26:43 azblues: Oops, I was still
on Annie Haslam..my bad
02/20/05 23:26:45 slowflight: Anything of
the Everly Brothers!
02/20/05 23:26:56 moodyballetdancer: it
sounded good on RRHoF.....
02/20/05 23:27:06 pbaub: wings of a
nightingale has a similar drive to it that question has
02/20/05 23:27:14 Fanatic1963: Maybe you
could suggest it, Tony--Justin obviously loves his music-would be awesome!!!
02/20/05 23:27:26 rainbow_glo: Thanks for
all the great answers, Tony, you were a very charming celebrity guest! G'nite
all.
02/20/05 23:27:41 gail: goodnight
02/20/05 23:27:41
tonyclarke: I was playing on an American airbase, the band ahead of us
were The Beatles. The guy asks can my friend get up and play with you .... the
friend was Sonny Curtis, played for The Crickets and The Everly Bros
02/20/05 23:27:42 James_Dean: it's
cover of "Everyday" is almost better than the original.
02/20/05 23:28:06 isobel_pulaski: Tony, any
special memories of doing "Songwriter" with Justin?
02/20/05 23:28:06 pbaub: when they played in
lubbock ( just north of where i live) they guys went tot he buddy holly museum
and wore buddy holly tshirt to the show that night
02/20/05 23:28:07 slowflight: Did he??? Play

02/20/05 23:28:18 azblues: Gotta go- thanks

02/20/05 23:28:24
tonyclarke: We agree with that JT does it proud
02/20/05 23:28:33 azblues: Thanks
again Tony for all the wonderful music.
02/20/05 23:28:38 pbaub: tony, did you know
the crickets still do shows around here?
02/20/05 23:28:54 pbaub: okay !! later az
02/20/05 23:30:01 pbaub: tony, your being
totally awesome with us!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
02/20/05 23:30:19 pbaub: i just hope your
enjoying yourself
02/20/05 23:31:07 gail: I think we are all
enjoying our selves
02/20/05 23:31:21
tonyclarke: Yea, it was lovely to do, we drove to the studio and it just
grew. It is a gentle rock sound. I loved doing Stage Door with noises off, the
dialogue and effects of backstage in a play.
02/20/05 23:31:37 Fanatic1963: Laddie
and Masnem seem to have their finger stuck on a button somewhere!
02/20/05 23:31:54 moodyballetdancer: just
listened to it today.....it was wonderful
02/20/05 23:32:11 moodyballetdancer: I loved
the dialogue.....
02/20/05 23:32:14 Jackieblue_: Who is the
woman speaking on Syage Door?
02/20/05 23:32:27 Jackieblue_: oops Stage
Door (sorry)
02/20/05 23:32:31
tonyclarke: I didn't know about the Crickets, I once played bass for
England's version of Buddy Holly, subtly named Buddy Britten!
02/20/05 23:32:33 Laddie: I keep
being bumped off ye old analogue
02/20/05 23:32:52 gail: we could tell
02/20/05 23:33:08 pbaub: i saw the buddy
holly story in the west end in london, very well done show
02/20/05 23:33:15 slowflight: It's an album
that has grown on me, my favorite on it is Raised on Love
02/20/05 23:33:18
tonyclarke: To my shame I can't remember,
02/20/05 23:33:29 Anne: Laddie, I'll
post a link on Mike's board to the transcript when it's ready.
02/20/05 23:34:14
tonyclarke: Raised on Love - not too sure about the children singing on
it but otherwise a good song
02/20/05 23:34:16 pbaub: tony, did
you travel a lot with the guys when they were on tour?
02/20/05 23:34:18 Laddie: Thanks
02/20/05 23:34:24 James_Dean: I did get to
see the Crickets play at one of the Six Flags amusement parks years ago.
02/20/05 23:34:32 isobel_pulaski: My fav is
Songwriter Pt 2
02/20/05 23:34:53 isobel_pulaski: Then Stage
Door.
02/20/05 23:35:18 Laddie: What about Jus and
Marty Wilde doing a song together.
02/20/05 23:35:19 isobel_pulaski: Both have
that behind the scenes feel to them.
02/20/05 23:35:22 slowflight: The remix
sounds better, I think.
02/20/05 23:35:31
tonyclarke: No I didn't but I flew in for a gig at San Francisco and then
San Diego and I was sitting in the Limo and these big doors opened (after the
show) and there were thousands of people something I am not used to.
02/20/05 23:35:59 gail: Did you ever
play at the "Cavern"?
02/20/05 23:36:01 pbaub: so you were
strictly in the studio then
02/20/05 23:36:45 pbaub: i wondered if you
went around with them to help with the sound board and stuff like that in the
early days
02/20/05 23:37:02
tonyclarke: We drove out of San Diego about 200 miles, escorted by fans -
cars would come alongside and you would sign an autograph. We managed to shake
them off somewhere near lax!
02/20/05 23:37:07 pbaub: speaking of
which, what kind of p.a. did they use in the early days
02/20/05 23:37:39 pbaub: we used harmon
cardon ca100's and altec a7 which was state of the art back then
02/20/05 23:37:43
tonyclarke: I did indeed, I was at the Philmore East for example
02/20/05 23:38:14 tonyclarke: Curtains open,
Melotron implodes , curtains close and they put on Road Runner while we fixed
the problem!
02/20/05 23:38:29 pbaub: LOL good
story
02/20/05 23:38:39 moodyballetdancer: ....and
then the band played on.....lol
02/20/05 23:38:41 Jackieblue_: beep beep
02/20/05 23:38:42 gail: lol
02/20/05 23:38:46 latentimage: i was there
02/20/05 23:38:58 isobel_pulaski: Sounds
like y'all had plenty of problems with the Mellotron.
02/20/05 23:39:09
tonyclarke: Harmen Carden rings a big bell
02/20/05 23:39:23 tonyclarke: Mellotron was
a neurotic animal
02/20/05 23:39:40 isobel_pulaski:
I'll bet she was.
02/20/05 23:39:43 isobel_pulaski: LOL
02/20/05 23:39:44 gail: is it still used?
02/20/05 23:39:46 pbaub: they had the most
powerful amp of the time...100 watts. now the moodys use an 85,000 watt
system.
02/20/05 23:39:49
tonyclarke: I remember tapes spilling out at Chicago OHare airport -
whaddya do?
02/20/05 23:39:52 latentimage: oct
1968?
02/20/05 23:39:53 moodyballetdancer:
artistically sensitive.....
02/20/05 23:39:53 Jackieblue_: But it
sounded sooo good!
02/20/05 23:40:22 goddess: Thanks, Tony; AND
Helen! Maybe now you can go out for breakfast!! :D It's been a pleasure.
ttfn, everyone!
02/20/05 23:40:25 pbaub: did mike run his
melotron through a marshall stack? did he use leslies?
02/20/05 23:40:27 isobel_pulaski: Oh my
gosh! That must've been embarrassing.
02/20/05 23:40:40 Anne: be talking to you
Karen
02/20/05 23:41:10 goddess: Later,
Anne.........
02/20/05 23:41:29 pbaub: bye karen
02/20/05 23:41:33
tonyclarke: No Leslies were used though he ran it through a stereo
Marshall stacks and maybe the PA (if I had been there)
02/20/05 23:42:01 pbaub: so you
actually did go through the sound system,, that was not much done in those days
02/20/05 23:42:52 pbaub: mixing boards were
just coming out and very simple then
02/20/05 23:43:11 pbaub: we didnt have
monitors at all in those days
02/20/05 23:43:22 pbaub: boy things have
changed
02/20/05 23:43:29
tonyclarke: Yes I guess so and they sure have changed
02/20/05 23:43:46 gail: music was so
simple then but it was just as good as today
02/20/05 23:43:57 gail: in some cases better
02/20/05 23:43:59 pbaub: music was better
then
02/20/05 23:44:17 gail: true
02/20/05 23:44:18
tonyclarke: I think I disagree, music was not so simple then but it was
beautiful then
02/20/05 23:44:30 isobel_pulaski:
Definitely better then.
02/20/05 23:44:36 gail: very beautiful
02/20/05 23:44:43 pbaub: i think gail means
the multiple layering done with sequencers etc etc etc
02/20/05 23:44:55 Fanatic1963: I like it
better when the members of a band actually all make music together, instead of
just recording separately and mixing it together...
02/20/05 23:45:01 gail: thanks that is what
I mean
02/20/05 23:45:06 pbaub: amen ,fan
02/20/05 23:45:08 Jackieblue_: Much more
artistic...more imagination
02/20/05 23:45:14 pbaub: that why i loved
the grateful dead
02/20/05 23:45:15 MoodyVal: It's wonderful
that the mellotron was able travel -- despite some problems
