Capt. Stephen Calkins Sr.

Military Service: Captain in the Revolutionary War. He was at the siege of Yorktown when the British army surrendered, and was most of the time during his service under the immediate command of General George Washington.

He was the first selectman elected in the town of Danby, Vermont.

Selectman for the town of Danby, Vermont for 9 years; representative in the Legislature 4 years; and a justice of the peace 27 years, being the longest time any man has served in that office in the town of Danby (note: as of 1869).
